C.flavescens leaf stalk (PGP)
Most commonly cultivated of the four subsp. is brevis. Distinguished in having hairy/non hairy leaf sheaths or hairs above ligule or not. One form hirta then extra hairy? New form (unnamed) flowers turn purple at onset of cold weather.
