Rain overnight is always welcome at this time of year, if I get a chance to enjoy its effects I’m even more grateful. The recent run of hot days has been good for the garden but a bit harder on me as the gardener!
I have lost nearly all my aquilegia with the mildew type disease that has suddenly arrived. Seeing all theses lovely pictures on blogs I must try and reintroduce them.
I’m sorry to hear you lost your plants to aquilegia downy mildew. Having read the Hardy Plant Society article about the new ‘killer disease’ last year it was signs of this that I was looking for on the plants in my garden. In case you haven’t read it, here’s the link http://www.hardy-plant.org.uk/library/misc/aquilegia.php.
I know what you mean! I’ve learned to appreciate them since we took this garden on, they fill the gap between spring bulbs and summer perennials perfectly.
Lovely, and it looks like their was some welcome sun after the rain.

Yes, a perfect mix of sun and rain. Followng a bit more of the latter overnight, the garden is sparkling this morning.

People can be a bit sniffy about Aquilegia but I love them. Your pictures demonstate why!
