Beautiful photo, Kate. I tried getting a shot of one in my mum’s garden a couple of weeks ago and failed miserably (I blamed the wind!). But this is gorgeous.
Thanks, Janna, I’m pleased you like it. Still conditions are helpful, their tissue paper thin flowers shiver in the slightest breeze. I hope you’ll have better luck with them another time.
Thanks, Sam. Must admit it was a chance snap while I sat on the patio steps feeling glum after Friday morning’s news – just happened to look up at them growing in a huge pot meant for Cannas. The garden is a welcome distraction right now.

Today I’ve looked at several posts all with images each more stunning than the last. Wow! Thank you.

Poppies are the flower of the hour, how wonderful. I love them especially as I never quite know where they will pop up.

Apart from Eschscholzia, which of course aren’t true poppies anyway, I’ve had very little success in growing poppies.

Oh, is that because of the climate where you are? To my delight these self sowed into Canna pots, germinating early under cover in the greenhouse.

I think it might be most my soul than the climate, I think I should try again.

Yes, do try again – if you’d like seed I’d be happy to send some.

Stunning … I especially like the unusual angle for the header, lovely detail.

Thanks, Allison. I guess the header shot worked because it was a gloomy day, with the sun just filtering through the centre of the backlit flower.

Perhaps of the orient’? “Tea and oranges”, that sort of thing?

I love poppies, from bud to dried seed pod, they’re fascinating.
