Sandwiched between the grasses terrace and the house is a sunny patio edged by Lavenders Munstead and Hidcote.
From left to right, clockwise, the cast of characterful ladies in lavender includes geraniums, with a cameo appearance by Clematis Petit Faucon.
‘Vision Light Pink’ and ‘Blue Sunrise’ win as many adoring glances from their fans as …
these two marvellous grand dames of the theatre.
Sunshine is the cue for a mesmerising array of extras to flit upon the lavender stage.
Today, being our twenty fifth wedding anniversary and so deserving of a special treat, we have booked front row seats from which to watch the high summer show.
Just love your plant selection and placement!!! So summery also on a cold winters day here!

Thanks Sam, the hot weather suits it but not the dogs. They’re flat out on the stone floor indoors.

The lavender was gorgeous and such an intense colour when we saw it but it looks even better in the sunshine with the grasses glowing around it. Happy anniversary to you both!

What a lovely way to describe the little patio, thank you, Cathy. I like the idea of it ‘glowing with grasses’ very much indeed. H is in London today, by the time he gets home the patio will be shady and cool.

Thank you Brian. I agree, I wouldn’t be without lavender and have always grown it. More compact forms like these grow happily along this well drained, sunny wall top but would do just as well in a big pot.

How kind you are, Christina. Thank you. I expect the low lavender hedge sans flowers has been often in images of the terrace : simply put, this is its moment to shine.

What a nice compliment, thank you, Liz. We are very lucky living where we do, a picnic in the meadow next door would have been just as lovely.
