Thanks, Christina. It was a pretty amazing sight, especially in the bright sunshine.

It really brings the scene to life, having the video, so we can imagine just how strong the wind is – not that strong here, by the way

The mighty River Severn and its tributary, the River Wye seem to funnel winds our way from time to time, it can be very dramatic! Grasses like these love high winds😉.

And great to see them enjoying it :)

Oh, you’re spot on, Cathy, It’s a joyful sight to watch them whirling in the wind.

I hope you don’t have the forecast snow, while it will look beautiful it will flatten the grasses. I would be interested to know how you post video on word press.

I’d like a bit of snow, then I could show you how these supple grasses bow down then spring back up again. WP image gallery uploads video files, are you thinking of switching? With movement being such a key feature of grasses, it seems like a good idea to occasionally show what they are capable of – especially when planted in groups.

I am developing a new blog with WP, it is not finished yet, although it has just gone live, brimfields.com.

I love your grass videos. Almost as good as being there!

Thanks Allison – it’s nice to share. The strobe effect of the light filtering through the grass stems is quite striking at times like this.

The video comes up as unviewable for me, but based on the comments your grass video is lovely.

I love the way the individual stems move as one, marvellous video and sound capture too, almost like wind in the sails.

Oh, what a good description, I’d never thought of it like that but you’re right – the sudden gusts do sound like canvass flapping ….

I love the mass plantings of stipa in your gardens. Could you tell me which grasses were filmed growing in pots on your terrace in the Gardeners World programme last year. They looked a bit like Achnatherum calamagrostis but seemed more substantial to me from what I could see.

Grasses can be confusingly similar, can’t they?
The eye catching pair in the two big pots on the terrace steps, which I think you’re probably referring to in the GW segment, are Chioncohloa conspicua. Although the flowering stems and seed heads have a look of Stipa gigantea about them they are more arching and last longer through the winter than stipa.
