Would you be up for this? I am planning a trip over with 8 people from my gardening association in our village in SW France, and I wonder if you would be willing to host us for a garden visit? Having looked up Brockweir, it would be really interesting for us to meet anyone from the local shop to hear about their experiences of running a local venture like this – our village is facing the same issues of disconnection and lack of services…This is just an idea at the moment, but I am very keen to try and make it work. So could we come and visit/hear about your garden? What would we need to pay as a contribution and might you be able to introduce us to someone at the vikkagr shop? This would probably be early-mid June 2018…
That’s a lovely idea, I’d be delighted to see you here with your group – current charges for NGS are given on the website visit page. May I suggest you contact the community shop manager Alison Macklin, and maybe think about having refreshments there? http://www.bandhvillageshop.co.uk/contact.html
This viticella is taller than the low growing srambler Pangbourne Pink, so here it’s the lax lower stems that trail through the bed of Deschampsia cespitosa. (Oh yes, I’d love to meet Alison and co..)
Yes, it’s easy forget to use climbing clematis in other than vertical positions – the first time I saw Etoile Violette it was on wire netting along the top of a low retaining wall
Thank you. Deschampsia has feathery fine inflorescences, freshly open they shimmer silvery purple. In a couple of weeks, as seed sets, they’ll turn gold.
That would be great, maybe same sort of time as last year when we met at The Plant Specialist Nursery? And, please do pop in if you’re over this way …..

Fantastic colour. Can I ask how true to life you think the camera shot is (‘cos they are often funny with purples/blues)? What is the grass?

Know what you mean about blues, but I think this is true to the shade of ‘blue’ of this richly coloured clematis. The grass is Deschampsia cespitosa.

Is this growing through some of your grasses Kate? Looks most effective. And a group visist from France…?! :)

Oh, that’s an excellent idea, Cathy. Maybe a rusty/galvanised steel or somesuch attractive framework would look interesting all year round?
